This resource is a unique way to get your students warmed up in the morning that helps incorporate the 4th Grade Language Standards, Vocabulary Practice, and Reading Comprehension skills.

ELA Morning Work 4th Grade Growing Bundle

Each month contains 4-5 weeks of ELA morning work, which will have a theme around the season, national holidays, or events associated with that particular month. The morning work is focused on ELA 4th Grade Common Core Standards. Each day has a thematic structure to cover those Language Standards as well as enhance Vocabulary and Comprehension skills.

Meaningful Monday: Monday is focused on making meaning. Tasks will focus on synonyms, antonyms, vocabulary words, context clues, and making meaning in a short amount of text. Some tasks may require students to make meaning in the text (inference, message, adages, proverbs, etc) or build vocabulary skills.

Text Structure Tuesday: Tuesdays will have a paragraph that requires students to identify the text structure, signal words, and a question or two related to main idea, author's perspective, or vocabulary. 

Wordy Wednesday: Wednesday is all about working with words. Tasks include working with shades of meaning, homophones, or a short writing task using pictures or a word bank.

Throwback Thursday: Thursday is all about grammar usage and conventions. 

Figurative Friday: Figurative Friday tasks include working with various types of figurative language including similes, metaphors, idioms, and more!

This printable booklet is a fun way for your students to reflect on the school year during the last few days. You might guess that this booklet was inspired by my students' love for graphic novels, especially the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. To implement this booklet in your last few days of school, you might read a few pages of one of the books to give students ideas. I encouraged my students to be creative and humorous in completing this project. You might notice that there is a pattern throughout the books. A few lines of text written in journal form and then a short cartoon sketch. A few lines of text and then a short cartoon sketch, and so forth. 

The booklet totals in 4 actual pages front and back. There are a total of 16 small booklet pages (including the front and back cover). The pages are copied back to back and then folded to form a booklet which students and families can cherish forever! Below are the booklet page contents. They are in the order in which you would copy them. On the following page you will find directions for copying as well.

This resource is a unique way to get your students warmed up in the morning. The math is aligned to 3rd Grade Common Core Standards and intended to be a review. 

This set contains 5 weeks of thematic Summer Math Morning work for the month of June. The morning work is focused on Math with a sprinkle of Science, a pinch of grammar, and a dash of Daily/Weekly Updates to keep your students engaged and open doors for conversations. 

Each week follows the same routine. The focus for each day was created based on fundamental needs I noticed in my classroom of 4th graders: Multiplication & Division, Number Sense, & Fractions (including Fractions & Decimals) While these are not the only areas addressed, they are the main focus. Because this worked so well in my own 4th grade classroom, we decided to make the morning work for other grade levels. Each week follows the same routine and structure. 

Multiplication Monday- Problems are centered around Multiplication.

Base Ten Tuesday- All about the Base of our Number System. These problems are centered around our number system and place value.

Wordless Wednesday- No Word Problems! Students have 3 problems without words.

Throwback Thursday- Review Day! Other days may offer a review problem, but Thursdays have problems that may come from 2nd grade or the beginning of the year. I also added problems from other standards such as Measurement, Data, and Geometry. There is also a short paragraph in which students Box the Verbs, Circle the adjectives, and Underline the nouns. There may also be a short sentence or paragraph in which students edit the sentence or answer a question after reading a short paragraph related to Social Studies or Science.

Fraction Fun Friday- Nothing says Fun Friday like Fractions! There is always a need to review fractions. By keeping it short, sweet and including a fun personal question, this may help build your students’ confidence in fractions while also keeping it fresh.

Each week follows the same routine. The focus for each day was created based on fundamental needs I noticed in my classroom of 4th graders: Multiplication & Division, Number Sense, & Fractions (including Fractions & Decimals) While these are not the only areas addressed, they are the main focus. Each week follows the same routine and structure. 

I created this resource in my 4th grade classroom because I saw a need to continuously review these key areas. By following this same structure each week, students know what to expect while they are also building their confidence in these essential math areas. I have also found several other benefits from this morning work routine: 

*Routine!-My students knew exactly what to do when they come in the classroom. Also, if I needed a few extra minutes due to meetings or other housekeeping duties, I knew my students were spending that time working on essential math skills, not just “busy work.” The morning work is meant to be short and sweet, skill practice, plus engaging.

*Short and Sweet- There are only a few problems so it shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes. This will also let you know if students are still having difficulty with a certain skill.

*Fewer Copies- Only one sheet of paper for the whole week! (Copy front and back)

*A Weekly Grade-My students know this and do not want to do the work for homework or have a poor grade. This helped get them started right away in the morning. I also go over the problems each morning and allowed students to fix their work before turning it in. In my opinion, this is beneficial because it keeps the students engaged as we go over it, ESPECIALLY if they had difficulty with it. This was also beneficial for students because if they paid attention and “added on to their thinking,” they can earn a good grade that will be added weekly. For students that already struggle, this is confidence building and motivating.

This resource is a unique way to get your students warmed up in the morning. The math is aligned to 5th Grade Common Core Standards and intended to be a review. If you teach 6th grade, this might also work for you depending on your students’ needs. 

This set contains 5 weeks of Spring and Summer themed math morning work for the month of May. The morning work is focused on Math with a sprinkle of Science, a pinch of grammar, and a dash of Daily/Weekly Updates to keep your students engaged and open doors for conversations. 

Each week follows the same routine. The focus for each day was created based on fundamental needs I noticed in my classroom of 4th graders: Multiplication & Division, Number Sense, & Fractions (including Fractions & Decimals) While these are not the only areas addressed, they are the main focus. Because this has worked so well in my classroom of 4th Graders, I was inspired to create a 5th Grade Morning Work.

Each week follows the same routine and structure.

Multiplication Monday - Problems are centered around Multiplication.

Base Ten Tuesday - All about the Base of our Number System. These problems are centered around our number system and place value. 

Wordless Wednesday - No Word Problems! Students have 3 problems without words.

Throwback Thursday - Review Day! Other days may offer a review problem, but Thursdays have problems that may come from 4th grade or the beginning of the year. I also added problems from other standards such as Measurement, Data, and Geometry. There is also a short paragraph in which students Box the Verbs, Circle the adjectives, and Underline the nouns. They might also do some sort of language and grammar activity such as editing a sentence or answering a question after reading a short paragraph related to Social Studies or Science. 

Fraction Fun Friday - Nothing says Fun Friday like Fractions! There is always a need to review fractions. By keeping it short, sweet and including a fun personal question, this may help build your students’ confidence in fractions while also keeping it fresh. 

I created this morning work series in my 4th grade classroom because I saw a need to continuously review these key areas. By following this same structure each week, students know what to expect while they are also building their confidence in these essential math areas. I have also found several other benefits from this morning work routine: 

*Routine! - My students knew exactly what to do when they come in the classroom. Also, if I needed a few extra minutes due to meetings or other housekeeping duties, I knew my students were spending that time working on essential math skills, not just “busy work.” The morning work is meant to be short and sweet, skill practice, plus engaging.

*Short and Sweet - There are only a few problems so it shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes. This will also let you know if students are still having difficulty with a certain skill.

*Fewer Copies - Only one sheet of paper for the whole week! (Copy front and back)

*A Weekly Grade - My students know this and do not want to do the work for homework or have a poor grade. This helped get them started right away in the morning. I also go over the problems each morning and allowed students to fix their work before turning it in. In my opinion, this is beneficial because it keeps the students engaged as we go over it, ESPECIALLY if they had difficulty with it. This was also beneficial for students because if they paid attention and “added on to their thinking,” they can earn a good grade that will be added weekly. For students that already struggle, this is confidence building and motivating.

Diary of a 2nd Grader {End of Year Memory Book} inspired by our favorite graphic novel!

This printable booklet is a fun way for your students to reflect on the school year during the last few days. You might guess that this booklet was inspired by my students' love for graphic novels, especially the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. To implement this booklet in your last few days of school, you might read a few pages of one of the books to give students ideas. I encouraged my students to be creative and humorous in completing this project. You might notice that there is a pattern throughout the books. A few lines of text written in journal form and then a short cartoon sketch. A few lines of text and then a short cartoon sketch, and so forth. 

The booklet totals in 4 actual pages front and back. There are a total of 16 small booklet pages (including the front and back cover). The pages are copied back to back and then folded to form a booklet which students and families can cherish forever! Below are the booklet page contents. They are in the order in which you would copy them. On the following page you will find directions for copying as well.

September/June This page is inspired by the diary form of many graphic novels. 

This page is meant for students to reflect on what they thought at the beginning of the year and how they changed. My students came up with ideas such as: 

"At the beginning of the year, I thought I wouldn’t have any friends. But now I know, to make new friends, you have to be a friend."

"At the beginning of the year, I thought I would never learn my multiplication facts. But now I know all of my facts and even some division."

Role Model Students identify a role model in their lives as well as how they are a role model for others. (pg. 4) 
#Goals The end of the year is a great time to set goals before students head off for Summer Break! Students set personal and academic goals. (pg. 5)
When I Grow Up… This page goes right along with setting goals. (pg. 6)
VIP {Very Important People} Students sketch a few of their closest friends, teachers, etc. that they consider to be important in their present lives. (pg. 7)
