This resource contains plans for the Read Aloud Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson.
This fun read aloud is perfect to teach treating each other with love and kindness, theme and character change. This document includes notes for the teacher to refer to as you are reading the book. The notes are on squares that can be cut and pasted onto Post-It notes. When placed in the book on the designated pages, your Read Aloud is prepped and ready to go!
Each Post- It square contains either a Think Aloud prompt or Question with an Example Student Response to help guide you in your read aloud. You can use as many or as few as you would like. The last post-it is intended to be blank for you to add any other teaching ideas. The questions can also be used as a formative assessment and are centered around: • Characters • Character Relationships • Activity Breaks
Great to leave in your sub plans!

This resource contains 36 task cards for Rocks, Minerals, & Earth's Resources. The questions are aligned to the 4th grade Science standards:
SC.4.E.6.1 Identify the three categories of rocks. (Metamorphic, Sedimentary, & Igneous) SC.4.E.6.2 Identify the physical properties of common earth-forming minerals. SC.4.E.6.3 Recognize that humans need resources found on Earth and that these are either renewable or nonrenewable. SC.4.E.6.4 Describe the basic differences between physical weathering and erosion.
The task cards can be used individually, in partnerships, small groups, or whole group. Each card has a question or fill in the blank statement. Most of the problems are multiple choice, but some are require students to fill in the blank using a vocabulary word.
This product includes… *36 Task Cards *Answer Sheet (2 pages for Front and Back) *Answer Key with the Question and the Answer
Teacher Directions: To use these in the classroom, you can print the cards in color or grayscale on cardstock or regular printer paper. I highly recommend laminating the cards so they can last longer for you. Copy an answer sheet for each student (front and back). Students will record the answer in each box. Then, you have options for how you want students to work with these task cards. I have tried several different ways using task cards.
*As a review before a test *Put 4-5 task cards in different areas of the classroom or in student groups. Give students 7 minutes or so to answer the questions, then switch groups. *Place cards in a bucket or basket and have students grab a few cards at a time when they finish another assignment. *Review for 5th Grade Science Assessment
We hope you find success with these in your classroom! If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know!

Writing Process Signs {Calming Blue}
Regular price
$2.00
Save $-2.00
These writing process signs will help you and your students identify the steps/parts of the writing process as well as keep track of where they are when working on a project and what to do next! Implementing a routine at the beginning of the year will help students be successful as writers throughout the year as well as in the rest of their writing life. These Writing Process Signs come in a calming blue with clear steps and visually pleasing clip art that will catch the eyes of you and your students. If you would like to see these posters in another color, please email me at help@theliteracyloft.com.
Steps Included *A Writer's Thinking labels (3 different versions, rectangle, oval, circle) *Generate Ideas *Develop & Plan *Rehearse *Draft *Revise *Edit *Peer Edit *Publish *Celebrate!
Ideas for Classroom Use These posters come landscape 11 x 8.5. If you are looking for a different format, please email me! I suggest printing and laminating each of the signs. You may or may not want to use all of the signs. In general, there are variations in the steps of the writing process. Printing on card stock would allow these signs to be more durable, but is not necessary! You could even print and slip into sheet protectors. If you do not have access to a color printer, or find that it is too expensive, simply print in gray-scale and you are good to go! Here are some ways I have used writing process signs in my classroom:
*Writing Center- Put signs in sheet protectors and then attach on a binder ring and have students use as a reference.
*Bulletin Board- Display in a row above or on a bulletin board or even in the writing center as a reminder of the steps writers go through during the writing process.
*Writers’ Tracking System- Use as a way to track your young writers’ status in the writing process. You could do this by connecting the signs using binder rings. Then, hang on a bulletin board and use clothespins with your students’ names or numbers to track where they are in the writing process.
Are you looking for something else? Please email me at help@theliteracyloft.com! I would love to add any words or signs that you use in your classroom.
Are you looking for a different color? I will be adding other versions of this same product with a different color. Please email me if you are looking for something specific!

Research Writing Unit Notebook Charts
Regular price
$6.00
Save $-6.00
This resource was a requested product to support a Research Writing Unit for 5th Grade as well as supplement Argument-Based Writing and MLA Format. The printable pages are created 2 on a page so that they can be glued inside your students' writing notebooks. Writing Notebook Charts are a tool I use to provide students strategies at their fingertips.
Why Writing Notebook Anchor Charts? Wall space has always been an issue for teachers and it would be impossible to display every chart you have ever used with your students on the walls all year round. It would also not look very pretty! By giving students' the anchor charts to glue in their notebooks, the notebook becomes a tool for their learning. Not only does it hold their ideas and entries, but it is also a lifelong tool for writing.
The following charts are included: *Using Timelines in Writing/Research *Primary vs. Secondary Sources *Point of View 1st, 2nd, 3rd Person *Point of View 1st, 2nd, 3rd Person {Blank for students to try on their own} *Mission Statement *Writing a Thesis Statement *Consider the Source! (Evaluating Source Credibility) *MLA Format *Creating a Bibliography Page {Book/Website} *Creating a Bibliography Page {Newspaper/Magazine} *Rebuttal, Response, & Counterclaims *Consider Your Audience *Language & Tone to Validate Your Argument *Using Quotations from a Text {for a Literary Response} *Citing the Text MLA Style *Quoting or Paraphrasing the Text
🛑 Are you a member of the TLL Membership? These materials are already included. If you are not a member, click here to learn more. The TLL Membership gives you an all-access pass to hundreds of ELA resources for teachers in Grades 3-5.
If you have a request for any other Writing or Reading Notebook Anchor Charts, I love suggestions! Please contact me at help@theliteracyloft.com.
This set includes ONLY the Writing Notebook Anchor Charts listed below. The following description is for the FULL Unit Resources.
The world of poetry is vast and full of variety. Whether you are doing a full on unit or trying to incorporate poetry among other units in your classroom, poetry can be a tool to help you meet students language, comprehension, writing, and even fluency needs. Furthermore, poetry can be integrated into content areas (see acrostic slide). The resources included in this unit can provide you with the tools you need to incorporate poetry into your classroom.
What this Product Includes:
*28 Writing Notebook Anchor Charts: These Anchor Charts are half-size pages (2 on a page) that students can glue inside their writing notebooks to get ideas, as reference sheets, or use for practice throughout the unit.
22 Large Anchor Charts/Slides: These large anchor charts/slides can be used to teach, in a writing center, or as a reference in your classroom. I have used these large charts as part of my lesson by projecting on the SMART board. After the lessons, I printed these off and put them in sheet protectors and on binder rings to use in our writing center. Students could refer to them if necessary or I have also used these to have a small group work on a specific strategy.
Common Core Standards for Teaching Poetry: Unfortunately reading and writing poetry is not explicitly defined by the Common Core Standards. However, I have included grades 3-5 Literature and Language standards that this unit could help you meet with your students. Writing poetry only helps to make children a better reader of poetry.
Suggested Teaching Points: A calendar of suggested poetry teaching points has been included to help with planning and identifying a sequence of teaching points. I suggest immersing students in reading poetry before writing poetry to study the characteristics of poetry and reading like a writer. In the future, I plan to add explicit lessons to this unit as I have done in my Narrative Writing Unit. Please email me if you are interested so that I can send you updates to this unit.
Reading a Poem: This "think sheet" will help students analyze and read a poem for meaning.
Peer Revision Checklist: This checklist can guide students to revise and edit their poems.
Thank you so much for your purchase! If you are looking for something specific that is not included in this product, I would love to hear from you! Please email me with questions, feedback, concerns, or to get on my updates mailing list.

This is an informational newspaper-style text perfect to teach your
students about history of St. Patrick’s Day. It may be used over a few days.
BINGO
The questions are in a bingo style format. Students read the informational text about St. Patrick’s Day. Then, they answer questions on the bingo grid. The grid comes in 26 different versions. Having each student use a different version of the answer grid will allow you to reinforce the content of the informational text by playing a game of
bingo.
HOW TO PLAY:
The first page is an answer key, which can be used to play the game of bingo. Cut up each square, place in a Ziploc bag or container of your choice and call out questions. Students must answer the question correctly and have 5 in a row. Up, down, or diagonally. Students can use counters or any treats (like Lucky Charms) to keep track of the questions called.

An angle that turns through 1/360 of a circle is called a "one-degree angle," and can be used to measure angles. ✔︎ 4.MD.C.5.BAn angle that turns through n one-degree angles is said to have an angle measure of n degrees. ✔︎ 4.MD.C.6Measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor. Sketch angles of specified measure. ✔︎ 4.MD.C.7Recognize angle measure as additive. When an angle is decomposed into non-overlapping parts, the angle measure of the whole is the sum of the angle measures of the parts. Solve addition and subtraction problems to find unknown angles on a diagram in real world and mathematical problems, e.g., by using an equation with a symbol for the unknown angle measure.

Standards Addressed: ✔︎ 4.NF.B.4 Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction by a whole number. ✔︎ 4.NF.B.4.A Understand a fraction a/b as a multiple of 1/b. For example, use a visual fraction model to represent 5/4 as the product 5 × (1/4), recording the conclusion by the equation 5/4 = 5 × (1/4). ✔︎ 4.NF.B.4.B Understand a multiple of a/b as a multiple of 1/b, and use this understanding to multiply a fraction by a whole number. For example, use a visual fraction model to express 3 × (2/5) as 6 × (1/5), recognizing this product as 6/5. (In general, n × (a/b) = (n × a)/b.) ✔︎ 4.NF.B.4.C Solve word problems involving multiplication of a fraction by a whole number, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem. For example, if each person at a party will eat 3/8 of a pound of roast beef, and there will be 5 people at the party, how many pounds of roast beef will be needed? Between what two whole numbers does your answer lie?

About this Product: This product includes 12 Valentine’s Day Themed Fraction Word Problems aligned with Common Core Math Standards for 4th Grade. The product also includes a Vocabulary sheet in both a half sheet version as well as a full sheet. Students can draw a picture to show an example as well as write the math word definition.
The 12 problems are presented in 3 different formats.
4 of the same problems on a page that could be used as Math Journal problems (glued into the math journal) or used in a Math Center.
The second format is a “worksheet” format to use if you wanted to review fraction concepts around Valentine’s Day. This would be printed as 6 on a page or 12 if you printed front and back.
The third format is also a “worksheet” format, but has 4 different problems on one side in case your students need more work space. Mine do! I used the journal problems in my classroom so students would have enough room to draw pictures and show their thinking.

Fractions {Christmas}

Falalala Fractions! Nothing makes fractions more fun than all things Christmas! This resource will help keep math fun and festive around the holidays while still meeting the Common Core standards.
This set has been updated as of 12/6/2015 to include printable practice pages (half sheets), updated fonts and clip art, and I Can statements added to each Journal Problem and Practice Page.
About this product: This resource contains practice problems and resources to support the following Math Common Core Standards for Fractions:
MACC.4.NF.1.1 Explain why a fraction a/b is equivalent to a fraction (n x a)/( n x b) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
MACC.4.NF.1.2 Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as ½. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, <, or =, and justify the conclusions, e.g. by using a visual fraction model.
This set includes Christmas-themed Journal Problems and Half Sheet Practice Pages to teach generating equivalent fractions, finding a common denominator, simplest form, and comparing & ordering fractions. The problems are thematic around the things that make us happiest around Christmas: wrapping presents, elves, Santa, his reindeer, and baking!
What this set includes:
*11 Journal Problems (4 on a page)- I used these problems in my 4th grade classroom to glue into their Math Journals. I used some of the problems to teach and some for students to work with a partner depending on the lesson. You could also laminate these and use in small groups or as part of your Math Center for partnership work.
*6 Practice Pages Half Sheet (2 on a page)- These half pages can also be glued into Math Journals or used as a formative assessments. These practice pages are printed two on a page to help save paper as well as minimize grading. You can quickly see whether students have mastered the concept with only a few skill-focused problems on a page. This helps me to see which students have mastered each concept of equivalent fractions and comparisons.
*Falalala Fractions Printable Page- (2 pages to print front and back) This page contains primarily the same problems from the Journal problems. This gives you the option to use the problems like a worksheet instead of a Journal problem.
